Jeanette McGrath

Hello. My name is Jeanette McGrath. I was born and bred in Dublin, Ireland. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Spanish and a Higher Diploma in Education, both from the University College Dublin. These qualifications have come in very useful as a Script Supervisor, especially my teaching experience……

I started my interest in film at a very young age as I have always loved watching films. At one point, I even decided I was going to be an actress!!!?? That was before I realised where the real magic happened. I first worked on a film set, behind the camera, in 1997 as a floor runner. This is when I discovered the existence of a Script Supervisor. I had spotted the odd thing amiss in films I was watching but never knew someone was there trying to prevent “mistakes” from occurring. My next film job, a year later, was as a production runner, though at that stage I knew I wanted to be a Script Supervisor.

As a floor runner, I was able to study what role everyone had in the crew. As a production runner, I was able to learn how the office worked and how they supported filming. I was very lucky as the editors were based in the production office. I spent as much time as I could with them, learning what they needed to be able to cut scenes together.

Then I got even luckier. The fantastic Pat Rambaut took me under her wing as her trainee (I did stalk her and harass her until she agreed). The rest is history, as they say!

I have been a fully trained Script Supervisor since 2001. I have been very fortunate in my career to have worked with some amazingly talented and inspirational directors who, in turn, have inspired me to be the best that I can be.
